A Separate Place

The sun sets on the horizon,
The sea closes in on the shore;
Grains of sand surround the island,
Places still left to explore.

The sounds filter out,
I stare out into the dark night;
I am left with doubt,
A lack of foresight.

Her tears fall in waves,
The stars begin to fade;
As we plunge into the cave,
I feel powerful and unafraid.

My throat constricts,
A pressure building inside;
I tear through the conflict,
I drift into the tide.

As a part of me dies,
The final words linger on;
I break all of the ties,
As the night turns to dawn.
